eMag Solutions Adds RFID Technology to Job Management System

Technology enables the company to further ensure media security and reduce costs for e-discovery projects

Atlanta (December 19, 2006) - eMag Solutions, a leading international electronic discovery company, today announced it is adding radio frequency identification (RFID) tags to all client media provided for e-discovery projects. Use of these tags will enable eMag to improve tracking for the on-site movement of media during every stage of a project, from arrival through production stages and to exit.

Radio frequency identification, or RFID, is a generic term for technologies that use radio waves to automatically identify objects. There are several methods of identification, but the most common is to store a serial number that identifies an object on a microchip or "tag" that is attached to an antenna. The antenna enables the tag to transmit the identification information to a reader. The reader converts the radio waves reflected back from the tag into digital information that can then be passed on to computers that can make use of it.

eMag will incorporate the RFID technology into its existing job management system (JMS). The JMS enables eMag to electronically track media during every step of the process, thus ensuring a complete chain of custody record. The company also provides its clients with the capability for Extranet access so they can view the location of their assets at eMag sites and monitor real-time job progress.

"Data security is a major concern for organizations that must outsource e-discovery projects," said Vince Nalin, vice president of production for eMag Solutions. "eMag Solutions is committed to providing the ultimate security and tracking for the hundreds of thousands of pieces of media that pass through our global data centers, and we believe the use of RFID technology is yet another important security step."

"In addition, information can be read from RFID tags much faster than from bar codes, which will enable eMag to reduce the time and costs for e-discovery projects," added Nalin.
