MediaMerge/Tape Management System (MM/TMS) Screen Shots and Description

Back to the MM/TMS page

MM/TMS Today

The application opens to this screen, MM/TMS Today. This is where operators go to find assigned work. The Outgoing and Incoming Vault movements represent lists of volumes to be inventoried and moved by the operator. Selecting a list allows the operator to press the inventory button to be taken to the Inventory screen below. Application Start Screen

Inventory

Operators perform inventories as part of their vaulting tasks. The list of volumes to be vaulted (taken from the backup software) is shown on the bottom left. The operator uses a scanner to reconcile the volumes listed against those present. In inventory is closed when all volumes are accounted for. Each inventory is marked with the user ID of the operator. Inventory Screen Shot

Batch

The Batch screen displays the history of the application's communication with the backup software. Once a server is selected, the operator can view each communication in detail. You can even run against a server in real time. Normally batches are run at a scheduled time (via cron or the Windows Scheduler). Batch View Screen Shot

Locate a Volume

A TMS should be able to help you find a single volume if needed. This screen allows you to determine current location of any volume as well as the recent history of its movements. Locate a Volume Screen Shot

Disaster Recovery

The point of creating backups is to be able to restore them, especially during an emergency where data loss is involved. This is news to several backup software vendors. Some force you to buy a separate Disaster Recovery software in order to recover. Others simply cannot tell you what volumes are required to restore a particular client, unless you already know what server contains this information. Our Disaster Recovery screen contains a listing of the media for each client computer - even if the backup server was destroyed in the disaster. Disaster Recovery Screen Shot

Freeze Media

This is the Freeze/Checkout screen. It allows you to temporarily suspend vaulting and expiration. It also tracks the temporary loan of media for restores, litigation, or regulator examination. Freeze/Checkout Media Screen Shot

My Sites

This screen allows you to view the servers, media pools, and clients associated with a particular site. You can also see a complete list of volumes from each pool. My Sites Screen Shot

Backup History

Here you can view the servers along with the backup Save Sets involved. Each time a backup is performed, the new image is called a Vault Set in our system. You can also view a list of the volumes used in each Vault Set. Backup History Screen Shot

Reports

MM/TMS offers an ever-expanding number of reports. Here you see a very simple example. All reports can be saved in HTML, CSV (comma-delimited), Excel XLS, Adobe PDF and XML formats. Custom reporting will be offered in a future release. Reports Screen Shot

Site Configuration

The Site configuration screen allows you to organize sites and site contacts. Site Configuration Screen Shot

Server Groups

Here you organize server groups within sites allowing you to organize your servers in ways that make sense to you. Server Groups Screen Shot

Servers

The Servers configuration screen allows you to view details about each backup server. Servers Screen Shot

Integration

The Integration configuration screen allows you to configure how MM/TMS communicates with the backup software on each server. Integration Screen Shot

Media

Here you associate vaulting policies with the desired media pool. A summary of the current vaulting policy is displayed in the lower right-hand panel. Vaulting Policies/Desired Media Screen Shot

Vaulting Policies

The Vaulting Policy is where you define vaulting and retention policies for media. A single vaulting policy can be used for multiple pools. Vaulting Policies Screen Shot

Slot Groups

This screen is used to track volume storage locations down the container and slot levels. Slot Groups Screen Shot
