Brick Level Restoration
Due to complex and lengthy restoration issues, brick level (single mailbox) backups are typically utilized for single user restoration and not for disaster recovery.
During the backup process, an agent requests the individual's mail store from the exchange server. The server rebuilds that user's email from the single instance in the overall information store. That means that if you sent four people in the store a message it is only stored once, but in brick-levels that is turned back into four messages and thus four times the data.
In order to restore this information, an agent on a system with an exchange server is sometimes required, and the information is read from tape back into the information store. This is a time consuming process because of the sheer amount of data and the granularity (each message/folder at a time).
eMag's in-depth knowledge of MAPI (Messaging API), Microsoft Exchange and Active Directory allows us to complete the complex brick level recovery process from a wide variety of tape backup formats. We then coalesce the restored data into useful PSTs (Personal Information Stores) to provide you with the easiest means of reviewing the data for discovery or typical recovery requests. All brick-level backup restores are performed in-house, and we consult with you every step of the way.
