Electronic Discovery Consulting
In the world of Electronic Discovery, Corporate or Outside Counsel is often presented with a large pool of potentially relevant data with little else known. Opposing Counsel is requesting production of E-mail messages and User Files belonging to certain custodians, but how and where do you begin to look for the data? How much is such an undertaking going to cost? Do you have to produce data from all of the storage media (hard drives, backup tapes, flash devices, etc) in your possession, or are there ways to minimize what is produced by electronic data culling and data de-duplication?
eMag Solutions will help your organization answer all of these questions and present you with many, many more to consider.
Data Restoration
In today's business environment of inexpensive storage options, the amount of data being retained is growing at a near exponential rate. Financial, regulatory and legal requirements dictate that companies retain data and have it readily available for production upon request. Most companies believe they have such a capability but learn at a very inconvenient (and potentially expensive) time that this is not the case.
eMag Solutions specializes in non-native tape restoration of data from storage media regardless of the format in which it is stored. For example backup tapes containing accounting information that were created in 1998 may have been created using backup software from a company no longer in existence. Additionally the owner of the data cannot find the software disks or the software will not operate on today's modern computers. eMag Solutions will utilize its proprietary software to restore the data without the need for the originating software.
Incidentally eMag supports restoration for 1000s of physical and logical formats of tape media, floppy media, and optical platters; far more than anyone else in the world!
E-mail Production / Conversion
The majority of discoverable information produced by companies today is found in e-mail or other messaging formats. Whether part of the message content, metadata, or in attachments, recreating and establishing a chain of events or knowledge trails typically involves the examination of e-mail.
Technical standards have evolved immensely in a short period of time. There are now a few e-mail packages experiencing wide-spread adoption, whereas five years ago there were many more options from which to chose. As a result corporations, law firms, and legal review tools have developed standards around present-day software which requires conversion from other formats into those supported today.
No eDiscovery company is capable of handling more e-mail formats than eMag Solutions. Whether it's Microsoft Exchange, Novell GroupWise, or iPlanet Messaging Server, our messaging system experts are capable of producing e-mail messages from nearly any e-mail system, even those containing foreign scripts, such as Cyrillic.
Computer Forensic Analysis of Storage Media
In the world of Electronic Discovery and Computer Forensics, the examiner's job is to accurately extract data from storage media and to examine it for potentially relevant data or evidence. When examined as a whole, data often leads to a complete snapshot of what an individual or business was doing at the time of the storage media being written.
eMag's work does not stop upon completion of the analysis; our Daubert-challenged expert witnesses will testify on your behalf as to how the data was produced. eMag's proprietary Job Management System tracks detailed production information from receipt to return delivery, recording such information as which media is in our possession, who handled the media, which production station accessed the media, and much, much more.
Online Repository Storage & Review
As corporations and law firms begin to grow and become geographically disbursed, managing a multi-location data productions or document review teams becomes a difficult task. Many teams utilize legacy review systems, such as Concordance or Summation, which require costly electronic conversion into single-page TIFF or PDF files prior to review in order to be fully utilized. Why pay to convert something that is going to be thrown out because it is not relevant? eMag can provide you with solutions which allow you to query data, electronically cull, and review the document contents prior to conversion, which saves a tremendous amount of money.
Looking to share the cost of discovery with opposing counsel? Once responsive data is identified in the repository, it can be segmented into its own repository so that opposing counsel can be give access to only that data which you deem discoverable. eMag can charge opposing counsel for access to the system and apply the payments to your charges.
