We specialize in data recovery, specifically from tapes and hard drives.
eMag Solutions has been involved in developing formulation for the coating of tape since 1974. This has involved iron oxide, gamma ferric oxide, chrome dioxide, and metal particle. We have routinely tested these formulations for stability and long life, testing such things as coercivity, durability, stability in extremes of temperatures and humidity, malleability, flexibility, ductility, and effects of aging, to mention a few.
The result is a database of knowledge and expertise that is invaluable in understanding what is preventing the retrieval of data, even down to the point of bit errors. The product of this knowledge is the routines we have developed to restore the condition of these tapes to the point of being able to make a successful copy.
We also have in-house software development capability that allows us to play with the boundaries of controllers and the tape drive microcodes, enabling such things as tension modification, error skipping, ignoring errors across a huge range of tape drives. This results in an ability to get to that piece of data that is so critical to the client.
