Many corporations still mail out hundreds of pieces of media to clients and vendors alike every month. Typically this media is 9-track (open reel tape), as this was the defacto media of choice for data exchange 15 years ago and more. Others are mailing 3480's, 3490e's etc. The problem with moving to a newer more cost-effective technology is cost, but a time comes where the decreasing volume becomes so little the cost of supporting the old technology itself makes this once cheap operation very expensive. How do you get all your vendors and clients to switch to the same technology as yourself? It's a near impossible task because not everyone has the same budgets and plans.
