Replace & Restore - Replace Tape Backup Systems While Having Them Readily Available for any e-Discovery Requirement

Currently, companies are required to maintain tape pools over varying data retention periods. Often times, however, these same companies need to replace or retire tape back-up systems in order to reduce costs, improve performance and/or decrease back-up or restoration times. To meet this need, companies are forced to use the slow, difficult and disruptive process of migrating their existing back-up systems to newer systems, or maintaining legacy systems that stem the progression to a homogeneous environment that is easier to manage. In addition, restoring the data once it has been retired becomes a nearly impossible process without the originating software. Factor in tightening compliance demands, and corporate IT departments are facing a very difficult environment.

Utilizing two of our most popular software applications (MM/PC and MM/TMS), companies are now able overcome these obstacles. Through the use of MM/TMS, companies are able to interrogate and adopt management of the media catalogs for software backup systems such as Networker™, NetBackup™, ARCserve™, Data Protector™, Networker™ and much more thus enabling them to immediately retire or replace that product and stop paying license and maintenance fees. This means that you are able to completely remove redundant back-up products from the infrastructure and deliver an improved ROI by negating the need to continue license payments. Additionally once the tape pool has been catalogued, companies are able to centrally manage and track the all tapes whether onsite or offsite.

If a discovery request is made MM/PC allows for non-native restoration of data from the retired tapes without needing to recreate the environment in which the tape was first created. This means that data stored in any back-up software format can be restored without needing the software that was used for its creation - providing full and free access to any legacy back-up or archive data for discovery purposes or for any other reason.

The functionality provided by this system can also be extended to provide access to all legacy data stored on tape. The ability to non-natively restore back-up and archive data presents almost unlimited flexibility and provides companies with the ability to move and convert data so that it sits on the most cost-effective and technically appropriate platform. Ensuring that data is available in the optimum format means that companies can reduce the cost of data ownership by retiring legacy hardware and software that otherwise has to be retained to allow data access.

Ultimately, the Replace & Restore system delivers a solution that reduces cost of change, cuts license costs and removes the need to maintain skills in multiple back-up systems giving companies an instant ROI. Contact us today to learn more.
